Our Approach

By identifying the root causes, we make way for growth

Like a trestle supporting a bridge, our team is here for you and your family from day one

01 Check-in
The first thing you’ll notice is that Trestle is like a home. We are shoes-free, so be sure to wear socks or bring your favorite slippers. You’ll have already submitted your background application packet by the time you come in, so most of the paperwork and preparation will have been handled by our client care coordinator. At check-in, we’ll take care of other formalities like making a copy of your insurance card and driver’s license.
02 Family Tour
It’s important that everyone feels welcomed and included from the very beginning, so on the first day we take you on a tour of our facility. Children are even invited to knock on some doors and introduce themselves if they like. We want them to know this is a friendly place where they will be heard, supported, and empowered. Parents tell us their kids look forward to coming to therapy, and it shows in their participation and progress.
03 Meet with clinician
A great deal of thought goes into matching each patient with their therapist. The thorough information you provide is vital and helps us take into consideration not only the skill sets needed, but also the therapist’s personality and her experience with certain age groups. All our therapists are women, and we work together to benefit each patient. It’s a collaborative effort involving our whole team and your whole family.
04 Patient assessment
The first session is always diagnostic. We tailor our assessment specifically to your concerns and establish whether there is a need for therapy. Every speech patient is screened for myofunctional disorders. We do a thorough oral motor exam, checking breathing, oral structures, support for good communication, and more. We’ll also do screenings for occupational therapy and physical therapy when needed.
05 Care plan discussion
After the assessment, we’ll talk about what the main concerns are and if we should schedule therapy. We’ll identify what we believe are the root causes of the dysfunctions and lay out a specific plan of care unique to your needs. We usually provide at least one therapeutic recommendation for you to work on at home so that therapy can begin immediately. It’s essential that we focus on the underlying issues and treat them completely versus targeting certain symptoms or issues alone. Our goal is to build a strong foundation within each patient so they can thrive.

Our Journey
A sprouting of support
Trestle founder Maureen Cooney knew at a young age that she wanted to be a speech pathologist. The oldest of five, she had three siblings who needed speech therapy, and Maureen was inspired by their sweet and spunky therapist who helped them meet their goals. In 2007, Maureen started her own business to help others, and it grew steadily and organically to meet patients’ needs.
